Abstract
Introduction: The career destiny of university graduates reflects a combination of personal, social, and educational factors. This study aimed to evaluate the career destiny of Master’s degree graduates from the School of Paramedical Sciences at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in the fields of radiobiology, hematology, biotechnology, and medical journalism during the years 2011-2020.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted in late 2022. The statistical population included all Master’s graduates from the specified fields between 2011-2020 (n=150). The data collection tool was the standard Career Destiny Questionnaire by Saidi Rezvani. Ultimately, 74 individuals participated and completed the questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 16), employing one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t-tests.
Results: The mean total score of career destiny in this study was moderate (3.11±0.53). Graduates from hematology obtained the highest mean score (3.28±0.44), while those from biotechnology obtained the lowest (2.89±0.47). A significant relationship was found between the faculty members’ role in fostering entrepreneurial skills and age (P=0.041). Significant relationships were also observed between the graduates’ professional and specialized capabilities (P=0.01), their work and employment status in society (P=0.02), and between professional competence dimensions and job satisfaction (P=0.01).
Conclusion: Given the multidimensional nature of the graduates’ career outcomes, identifying employment barriers and developing strategies to address them is crucial. Based on the findings, it is suggested to strengthen graduates’ entrepreneurial skills, implement planning for their employment in fields related to their studies, and conduct necessary assessments of labor market needs, as well as existing strengths and weaknesses, prior to graduation.
